Our Local Community

We love our host country of Côte d’Ivoire and think it’s incredibly important to honor the culture. Abidjan is not just a place we live in; it’s a vibrant mix of cultures, traditions, and stories that creates a rich and unique identity.

Celebrating Our Host Country & Continent

ICSA has one of the most diverse student populations in the world, with 85 different nationalities represented. We make it a point to celebrate this diversity, but also celebrate our local families, neighbors, and staff members. Twenty-five percent of our faculty is from Côte d’Ivoire and about 13% of our students.

ICSA hosts craft fairs on campus several times a year, where artisans bring beautiful handmade goods. You’ll see people carving small statues and weaving rugs—demonstrating the crafts and important cultural traditions.

We also have a week-long celebration called AWANE (which in the bété ethnic group means to love each other) where we can celebrate the diversity of the Ivorian culture and discover the different meals of each region.

Africa and Its Diaspora

Each year we extend “Africa Day” into a week-long celebration of African diversity and accomplishment. Our most recent theme was “Ubuntu,” which is an ancient African word meaning “humanity to others.”

At ICSA, many of our community members come from all over Africa. The continent welcomes all identities, nationalities, and ethnicities, and is the cradle of mankind where we all feel at home and are all interconnected.

We celebrate Africa with the entire ICSA community .
