Aquatics

ICSA is lucky to have an olympic sized swimming pool on campus, allowing us to offer an extensive aquatic program. Students have the opportunity to learn how to swim through swimming classes as part of the curriculum, and during after school Activities where we offer various aquatics clubs. There is also a competitive swimming team.

We believe that when a child learns to swim with confidence, their life is changed forever.”

Aquatic Activities

At ICSA, we offer a comprehensive aquatic program so that our students can have access to more opportunities now and in the future. Here are the aquatic activities we offer:

  • Water Polo Training
  • Aqua Basketball
  • Swimming Training
  • Basic Swimming Lessons
  • Synchronized Swimming
  • Fun Water Games
  • Splash Ball
  • Competitive Swimming

Competitive Swimming

ICSA Panthers is our competitive swim squad that represents the school in both local and international competitions. Swimmers train all year round and as a member of WAISAL, we participate in the annual WAISAL games that take place in different countries in West Africa.

High quality professional coaching is offered to swimmers during training. This includes stroke technique, endurance and speed training based on goals, ability level and age.

To be eligible for ICSA Panthers swim squad, each swimmer must meet minimum swim times as required. Time trials are held in August and February each year. During time trials, swimmers will be timed in 100m IM, 50m freestyle and 100m, or 200m freestyle, depending on age.

Development Squad

The development squad is made up of dedicated swimmers who strive to improve their stroke technique before joining the competitive team. In this program, children train in small groups allowing coaches to use a one-on-one approach to work on technique. Like most of our aquatic programs, the development squad train all year round and are required to do time trials twice a year. Time trials are held in August and in February every year which gives an opportunity for students to join the squad and for the squad members to confirm their interest in the team or get promoted to the main team. During time trials, swimmers will be timed in 100m freestyle, 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke.

Junior Panthers

We now have a training program for younger students in grades 1-3 who show potential during swimming lessons.

Students join the team through invitation from the coach or the aquatics director. There are no official time trials organized for this team; the main goal is to nurture the talents that we have in our lower grades and also prepare children for possible competitive swimming in future. Training takes place after school for one hour, twice per week. The focus is mainly on learn to swim and having fun.

Junior Panthers will not represent us in WAISAL games.

Safety First

One of the most important safety measures one can take is “learn how to swim.” Survival swimming is part of our program whereby each child takes part in water safety and life saving lessons each year. Our aquatics center has two lifeguards whose job is to ensure safety for all individuals who enter the pool area. They pay special attention to young children and help remind them to move and play safely both in and out of the pool to avoid accidents. Lifeguards do regular checks for water chemical balance. When weather changes or thunder roars, the lifeguard immediately whistles to alert all swimmers to exit the pool and go to safety. At ICSA children are taught to respect lifeguard calls at all times.
