Aquatic Activities

Aquatic Activities

At ICSA, we offer a comprehensive aquatic program so that our students can have access to more opportunities now and in the future. Here are the aquatic activities we offer:

  • Swimming training
  • Basic swimming lessons
  • Competitive swimming training for all levels
  • Fun & Recreational Water Games
  • Stroke Development & Correction

Competitive Swimming

ICSA Panthers is our competitive swim team that represents the school in both local and international competitions. Swimmers train all year round and as a member of WAISAL, we participate in the annual WAISAL tournament that takes place in different countries in West Africa.

High quality professional coaching is offered to swimmers during training. This includes stroke technique, endurance and speed training based on goals, ability level and age.

To be eligible for the ICSA Panthers swim team, each swimmer must meet minimum swim times as required. Time trials are held in August and February each year. During time trials, swimmers will be timed in 100m IM, 50m freestyle and 100m, or 200m freestyle, depending on age.

Development Team

Aquatic Activities

The development team is made up of dedicated swimmers who strive to improve their stroke technique before joining the competitive team. In this program, swimmers train all year round.
Swimmers joining this group should demonstrate good swimming skills in Front Crawl and Backstroke and rudimentary skills in Breastroke and Butterfly. They should be able to perform continuous 50 meters in front crawl and backstroke and 25 meters in a rudimentary breaststroke and butterfly. This is assessed every season, when swimmers register for co-curricular activities.

Junior Team

We have a training program for younger students in grades 1-3 who show potential during swimming lessons.

Students joining the team should already be comfortable in the water and ready to be in the 25 meters swimming pool. They should be able to perform 25 meters in front crawl and backstroke techniques; they should be able to tread water for 15 seconds. Training takes place after school for one hour, twice per week. The focus is mainly on learn to swim and having fun. The goal is to teach proper swimming in the alternated techniques (Front Crawl and Backstroke), starts and turns, and initiate the simultaneous techniques (Breastroke and Butterfly).

Safety First

One of the most important safety measures one can take is “learn how to swim.” Survival swimming is part of our program whereby each child takes part in water safety and life saving lessons each year. Our aquatics center has two lifeguards whose job is to ensure safety for all individuals who enter the pool area. They pay special attention to young children and help remind them to move and play safely both in and out of the pool to avoid accidents. Lifeguards do regular checks for water chemical balance. When weather changes or thunder roars, the lifeguard immediately whistles to alert all swimmers to exit the pool and go to safety. At ICSA children are taught to respect lifeguard calls at all times.
