Community Engagement — Turning Compassion into Action

At ICSA, Community Engagement is an essential part of our experiential learning approach, designed to foster meaningful connections for our students with our immediate and broader community, and to provide our students with opportunities to apply their learning in real world contexts. Through community engagement, students engage in a range of meaningful experiences including curricular integration of service learning, field trips, and exchanges with guest experts. Students also participate in rich co-curricular activities grounded in collaborative projects with community partners and pursue personal passions through student-led initiatives. Through community engagement, students are empowered to lead with empathy, take principled action, strengthen their intercultural understanding, and grow as compassionate, courageous changemakers.

Why Community Engagement is Important

Integrating service with learning fosters better academic outcomes and develops empathy, teamwork, and civic responsibility. Over time, our students show improved problem solving, leadership, and cultural awareness.

  • Increased critical thinking and real-world problem solving
  • Empathy and community stewardship
“Service as action is a foundational element of the International Baccalaureate Programme. It seeks to develop caring members of the community who act to make a positive difference to the lives of others and their environment.”

Community Engagement Partnerships

ICSA partners with local organizations to deliver sustainable community impact — here are a few recent highlights of student-led achievements.

Education & English For You (EEFY)

Making a Lasting Impact in Anono

Through sustained partnerships with Education & English For You (EEFY) and the Anono community, ICSA students transform learning into meaningful action — combining education, service, and environmental stewardship.

Our students lead regular English language learning sessions for EEFY students in the Anono neighborhood of Côte d’Ivoire, fostering communication and confidence.

Over 200 English books and learning support materials translated from English to French were donated to strengthen literacy and classroom engagement.

Benches donated by Grade 8 students provided improved seating and learning conditions as part of their service learning project.

School supplies for 100 students were donated by Grade 8 students, directly supporting classroom readiness and participation.

19 ceiling fans installed across six classrooms and one office at Anono Public Primary School, funded through the EEFY ICSA After School Activity initiative.

Decorative murals reflecting Anono Primary School’s mission were created through a collaboration between Grade 8 art students and Anono primary students.

400 trees planted around the school campus, promoting environmental responsibility and sustainability.

Six classrooms renovated with new floors and book closets, creating safer, more organized, and inspiring learning spaces.

Partner: Orphanage

Orphanage — Bingerville

Supporting Growth and Well-Being at the Orphanage

Through compassionate service and student-led initiatives, ICSA partners with the orphanage to support education, sustainability, and healthier living environments.

Computers were donated to equip the orphanage’s IT lab, expanding digital literacy and learning opportunities.

English books were donated to enrich the orphanage’s library and encourage reading and language development.

ICSA Community Garden ASA students helped tend the orphanage garden and donated essential gardening equipment to support sustainability.
