1972 – Humble Beginnings
Several diplomatic families associated with the US Embassy in Cote d’Ivoire founded the International Community School of Abidjan (ICSA). Growing from humble beginnings, ICSA was located in villas for several years in Cocody and Deux Plateau, residential communities in Abidjan.
1989 – Expansion and Purpose-Built Facilities
ICSA relocated to Riviera III, where it developed purpose-built facilities that enabled increased enrollment and the establishment of a comprehensive PreK–12 program.
2002-2003 – Civil Conflict
ICSA experienced the largest enrollment in its history only to downsize to less than 100 students by February of 2003, due to civil conflict.
2003-2007 – Strategic Relocation Amid Enrollment Challenges
As enrollment dropped below 20 students, ICSA faced the difficult decision of moving from its purpose-built campus to a temporary location. Managing the expenses of its 5.3-hectare campus became increasingly unsustainable. In 2005, to address these financial pressures, the school relocated to a temporary residential site near the village of M’Pouto, ensuring continuity for its students while adapting to new challenges.
2007-2013 – Enrollment Fluctuations Amid Political Instability
After a period of political stability, the school saw enrollment steadily rise. However, the post-election violence in November 2010 caused a sharp decline, with fewer than 30 students by the end of the 2010–2011 school year. The following year, 2011–2012, marked the beginning of a strong recovery, with enrollment starting at 80 students and finishing at 95. Growth continued into 2012–2013, as the school welcomed 138 students at the start of the year and celebrated a year-end total of 150, reflecting renewed confidence in the school and its community.
2013 to 2024 – New Purpose-Built Campus
ICSA relocated to a modern 5.3-hectare campus with over 180 students, becoming a hub of learning, growth, and collaboration.
2025 to Now – A Modern Transformation of Our Campus
ICSA has renovated its existing buildings and constructed new facilities, embracing a modern and innovative architectural design.
